TOPIC about_VimTabCompletion SHORT DESCRIPTION PowerShell Tab Completion for Vim LONG DESCRIPTION Complete available -, + and -- OPTIONS for Win32 Vim, Gvim, etc. Otherwise, complete files. For --servername complete running Vim servers. For -r or -L complete swapfiles, if any; return a blank string otherwise. For -t use readtags to complete tags in the current directory or project root, as determined by `git rev-parse --show-toplevel`. Assume the file name is tags. If readtags or tags file are not found, return a blank string. For -u or -U, complete NONE, NORC, DEFAULTS and files, as appropriate. For -V complete verbosity level and log file. EXAMPLES Get-Help VimCompletion -Examples NOTE: VimCompletion completes Vim OPTIONS when called by TabExpansion or TabExpansion2 via Register-ArgumentCompleter. Invoke-Vim locates and starts the Vim or Gvim executable. It assumes vim.bat is in $Env:PATH. Override with Invoke-Vim -VimPath C:\tools\vim\vim82\vim.bat. Invoke-Vim reads $Env:VIM_EXE_DIR and Vim folder name, e.g. vim82, from vim.bat. As with vim.bat, $Env:VIM overrides $Env:VIM_EXE_DIR but uses the Vim folder name. $Env:VIMRUNTIME overrides all and should contain the full path to the executable, e.g., C:\tools\vim\vim82. TROUBLESHOOTING NOTE: Vim completion does not work after re-starting PowerShell. Add `Import-Module VimTabCompletion` to $Env:PROFILE. PowerShell lazy loads completions, so they are not available until a module member is called. Native commands like Vim are not module members, so completion does not work without importing the module. vim -r or -L completion polutes $Error due to a PowerShell issue, which will be patched in after 7.0.3. Invoke-Vim provides a workaround using [System.Diagnostics.Process]. Vim for Win32 does not support -g, so not implemented. Use gvim or `Invoke-Vim -g` instead. Invoke-Vim -c '10sleep' -c 'qa!' Invoke-Vim: Cannot bind parameter because parameter 'c' is specified more than once. Use one of the following workarounds: Invoke-Vim `-c '10sleep' `-c 'qa!' Invoke-Vim '-c 10sleep' '-c qa!' Completion does not enforce option order, so -<Tab> or +<Tab> can follow --remote* and --, but Vim will treat any completions as files. vim -V10C:\ completes vim -V10C:'C:\.... Use vim -V10'C:\ instead. Not implemented: vimtutor nvim -P <parent title> Open Vim inside parent application --windowid <HWND> Open Vim inside another win32 widget -X Do not connect to X server -T <terminal> Set terminal type to <terminal> Arguments recognised by gvim (GTK+ version): -font <font> Use <font> for normal text (also: -fn) -geometry <geom> Use <geom> for initial geometry (also: -geom) -reverse Use reverse video (also: -rv) -display <display> Run vim on <display> (also: --display) --role <role> Set a unique role to identify the main window --socketid <xid> Open Vim inside another GTK widget --echo-wid Make gvim echo the Window ID on stdout SEE ALSO KEYWORDS Vim Gvim TabExpansion TabExpansion2 ArgumentCompleter |
